Trail crew

Hey there! We’re the “Trailies” of the Santa Monica Mountains Task Force.

Our work since the 1980’s has included building new trails, maintaining them, pruning back vegetation, repairing eroded trail tread, correcting water drainage problems, installing bridges and other structures, removing invasive non-native plant species, and so much more.

The crew works on Saturday mornings from October thru June, generally meeting at 8:30 am and returning to the trailhead around 1:30 pm. We also schedule special projects on weekdays, on occasion.

Subscribe to our trail crew mailing list to receive schedule announcements each week by email—meeting time, place, driving directions, and any other pertinent details—plus important updates to project plans.

Work locations are subject to last minute change as we are highly responsive to the changing needs of our trails, impact of weather, etc. For this reason we typically do not confirm project details until a few days prior (with the exception of special events).

No experience is necessary to participate in trail work with us—complete training and guidance will be given. We provide the tools. Folks are free to come and go from the crew as their availability allows.

All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a Sierra Club liability waiver, as well as any volunteer documents mandated by the park agency. These will be provided at the trailhead by the crew leader.

A parent or legal guardian must accompany any volunteer under the age of 18. Please read our policy for minor volunteers.
