Backbone Trail

Ron Webster and the Sierra Club trail crew built many of the trails that laid the foundation for the Backbone Trail, including Musch Trail, Topanga Nature Trail, Dead Horse Trail, Piuma Ridge Trail, Saddle Creek Trail, Fossil Ridge Trail, Hondo Canyon Trail, Ray Miller Trail, Wood Canyon Vista Trail, and Coyote Trail.

Altogether, Ron and his crew designed and built 31 miles of the 67-mile Backbone Trail.

At a Grand Opening Ceremony, held in June 2016 at the trail’s eastern terminus in Will Rogers State Historic Park, Ron and his volunteers were given extensive recognition for their work on the Backbone Trail. Ron was invited to the podium to speak about his work, and was among a small group of individuals who were brought forth to hold up the ribbon for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Backbone Trail was designated a National Recreation Trail in 2016.
