Join our crew!

To receive notice of upcoming trail projects (including a link to register), subscribe to our mailing list and select ‘Saturday trail work schedule’ as one of your mail preferences, along with any other topics that interest you.

The crew works most Saturday mornings from late September thru June, generally meeting at 8:30 am and returning to the trailhead by 1:30 pm.

After our final volunteer event of this season on June 27th, 2026. we will be taking a break to avoid the summer heat. We will return on September 26th with a special event for National Public Lands Day.

Our work since the 1980’s has included building new trails and maintaining them, pruning back vegetation, repairing eroded trail tread, correcting water drainage problems, installing bridges and other structures, removing invasive non-native plant species, fire repairs, storm repairs, and so much more.

No experience is necessary to participate in trail work with us! You will receive one-to-one training and support from our seasoned crew leaders. We also provide the tools.

What to bring with you

  • Robust footwear with a closed toe (hiking shoes are ideal)
  • Long-sleeve shirt and long pants
  • Warm top layer
  • Sun protection: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen
  • Plenty of water (1-2 liters recommended)
  • Snacks / lunch (to eat in the field)
  • Treats to share during coffee break (optional)
  • Day-pack to carry your belongings
  • Work gloves (we have extras to loan)
  • Eye protection (we have extras to loan)

Trail crew projects are inherently susceptible to late revisions or cancellation, and we need to be able to reach you if anything changes. For this reason, with the exception of special events we typically do not confirm project details until just a few days prior, and exclusively via the mailing list.

Before the work begins, participants will sign our Sierra Club Outings liability waiver, plus any other volunteer documents that may required by the partnering land agency (eg. CA State Parks or MRCA).

Not all projects are suitable for younger volunteers. Please refer to our trail crew policy for minors.

Contact the Volunteer Coordinator with any questions.
