On July 26th, at Parks Project in Culver City, I (Mike Robinson) will be co-hosting a fundraiser with David Haake of the West LA branch of the Sierra Club to raise money for the Santa Monica Mountains Task Force.
The event will be centered around my new book The Trailcutter, inspired by twenty years of hiking these mountains and, more recently, getting to know them even more intimately by working with the Task Force, which will receive a full 100% of the proceeds from books sold at this event.

A huge part of the motivation for the book also came from wanting to see the Mountains star in their own story. For all the film and fiction to come out of LA, the urban wilderness in our backyard has gone relatively unrepresented, even though it’s such a crucial factor in what makes the city unique. I mean, most people who visit or move to LA — that I’ve encountered, anyway — come with no idea of what these spaces truly offer.
The actual story is part mystery, part eco-fiction and part character study, with dashes of geological history as well as the history of our founder, Ron Webster, and his trail-building, well, trial-blazing.
